Black Friday? It’s so 2000… Walmart and Sears move the start of their Holiday sales to Thanksgiving Thursday
Every year Black Friday frenzy arrives earlier than ever. This year Walmart customers will barely get to digest their Thanksgiving dinner as the Holiday sale of the biggest U.S. retail store starts off at 8 p.m. local time on Thanksgiving Thursday. Walmart Stores is loading up on electronic gadgets assuming that early shoppers are ready to spend during the critical holiday season 2012. Everyone knows – the holiday season generates more sales than a quarter of annual sales of this retailer.
Which and what time are Walmart’s early specials starting in stores
According to the Wal-Mart U.S. merchandising chief, Duncan Mac Naughton, they’re getting many customer messages saying: “I like to go out and shop earlier and get to bed earlier”. WalMart also announced that they will guarantee customers access to at least three particular special deals for between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Thanksgiving Day: LG Blu-ray player for $38, an Emerson an 32-inch television set for $148 and a $75 Wal-Mart gift card for those who buy a $399 16-gigabyte iPad 2. So, if you’re in line in a store for one hour between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. , you can take advantage of Walmart’s “1-Hour In-Stock Price Guarantee.”
Other Walmart deals features the previous model of Nintendo Wii for $89 (the next-generation Wii U will be available starting November, 18), six-quart crock pots and coffee makers for $10 or less or mens’ and womens’ jeans for only $9.50.
Sears also announces an 8 p.m. Thursday opening
It seems like this year Walmart is only being matched by Sears, that also announced an 8 p.m. Thanksgiving Thursday opening in its circular. Both, Sears and Kmart stores, will be open on Thanksgiving Day 2012. Last year, Last year, the Sears Holdings kept their discount chain Kmart open on Thanksgiving, while the Sears chain opened on Friday after Thanksgiving day. Actually, Kmart has been open on Thanksgiving Day for the last 21 years.
While doorbuster deals are often limited in quantity, Sears’ circular says they can guarantee that supplies will last for all shoppers. The sale features 50% off cases for the Nook Simple Touch and a 32-inch TV for just $97 and for early shoppers. Those shoppers who will arrive to the store on Friday morning will be able to buy a 9.99 Craftsman electric drill/screwdriver. The sale starts at 4 a.m. local time.
Sears also announced that they will offer online access to many of their Black Friday deals to members of its Shop Your Way loyalty program from November 18 to November 19.
And what about other stores?
What other retailers and chains are having Thanks giving day sales this year? Macy’s, JCPenney, Best Buy, Kohls, Meijer and other hypermarkets, chains and big retailers are planning to open their stores at midnight on Friday, November 23. Target has not given its plans yet (stay tuned!).
Last year Target, Best Buy, Kohls, Meijer, JCPenney and Macy’s were closed on Thanksgiving and kicked off their Black Friday sales at the stroke of Friday’s midnight, which was their earliest starts ever.
UPDATE: Target and Toys R Us announced their opening on “Black Thursday”
